Amherst Acupuncturist Demonstrates Points in Nature and Explains the Metal Element

As a Five Element Acupuncturist practicing in Amherst, MA, I include posts in my blog that showcase the acupuncture points and elements in nature. Observing the world around us is a wonderful way to connect to the world within, and gives a true sense of just how incredible the Five Element Acupuncture practice is. Please read on to come with me on a journey into the five elements in nature to see how this resonates with you.

Today while waiting for the bus, I had the beautiful fortune of my little guy picking a dogwood flower from a tree that I had told him not to do. Truly, he was captivated and I can’t blame his wonder. I told him I would take the flower home and put in in our bud vase.

As I brought this beauty home I looked at it and realized it was the perfect flower to represent the metal element and I wanted to share. First, a quick reminder that within the five element acupuncture tradition, we are all thought to have all five elements within us and that some are more pronounced than others. This flower I’ll expand on now encapsulates the metal element.

The metal element, in Chinese medicine, is comprised of the lungs and colon. This team works together to ensure that anything that doesn’t serve us leaves us (the colon cleans us out in the body, mind, and spirit levels) to allow for the expansiveness of the lungs to bring in pure inspiration, beauty, elegance.

And as such is this dogwood that my son picked. Take a moment to take in this beauty. It is simply white, not filled with flashy colors. It has very clean lines, pointed tips. It is four petals of perfection and it doesn’t have any extra embellishments to make it stand out, yet in its crisp simplicity its beauty radiates. Such is the energy of metal. Simple, clean, elegant, awe-inspiring beauty.

Take a moment to think of the metal element within you. If it is in balance you can connect to your own beauty and elegance. You can find simplicity. You can streamline life. If out of balance, you might feel clogged down emotionally or physically with things that don’t serve you. You might have clutter about your home, or in your mind you might find your thoughts turning to “garbage” where you just think everyone is the worst. Because of the clutter about your mind or your space, you might struggle to find inspiration and feel completely disconnected.

Enter the power of five element acupuncture. This amazing medicine features several points to help clear away the rubbish and allow you to connect back to inspiration. The journey is personal and takes many forms, so being in the treatment room means you’ll get to express your own situation and with me we will create a bespoke treatment to cause profound shift.

If this post resonates with you, please let me know. If it reminds you of a friend, family, or co-worker, please share with them. I am always happy to connect to someone one-on-one to explain how this beautiful medicine can help them specifically.

We are here to live a full and wondrous life, and I am forever honored I get to be a part of the journey for anyone who enters my treatment space.

With gratitude and love,

Kristin Althea O’Connor
